Welcome to Jigsaw Speech, Language and Literacy located in the western suburbs of Brisbane and dedicated to helping kids; speak clearly, take part in conversations, read their favourite story, talk without stuttering and communicate in socially appropriate ways. My passion to upskill parents as an integral part of therapy is all about seeing improved outcomes for kids and their families.

Are speech pathologists different from speech therapists?
No.Whilst there are several different titles used such as speech-language pathologist, speech therapist and speech pathologist these are typically used interchangeably. In Australia people graduate as speech pathologists.

What do speech pathologists do? And can they help with my child who is struggling to read?
Speech pathologists assist people across the life span with communication, feeding and swallowing.

Can you tell me what my child should be saying at their age? I don’t know whether I should be concerned about their development or not. Should my child be talking at 2 years old?
Children are learning at different rates, however, there are some clear ideas on when most children are doing certain things. When a child has not reached a particular milestone when most of their peers have, it is time to seek some help.

How do I find a speech pathologist? Do I need a referral from my doctor?
There are many therapists working in both private and public sectors. If you are looking for a private speech pathologist you can find them in via the Yellow Pages or Speech Pathology Australia. There are also a range of questions you may like to ask the therapist to help you decide whether he or she is right for you and your child.

What about rebates? Does Medicare cover any of the costs?
Some children are eligible for an Enhanced Primary Care plan or a Chronic Disease Management plan which entitles the recipient up to five Medicare rebated sessions per year.

What does speech therapy look like? What should I expect when I to see a speech pathologist?
